Hotel de Goudfazant is an incredible restaurant (not a hotel, as the name insinuates) next to the river ”het IJ”. It’s situated on the opposite side of Central Station, referred to by locals as Amsterdam “Noord”. Goudfazant is without a doubt one of Amsterdam’s top places, but getting there is a little tricky. Take a ferry from Central Station to Noord and about 2km walk or bike, or grab a cab from the city centre. It will be worth your while.
This restaurant is inside a former shipyard that has completely been taken apart and redecorated by the owners. And what a job they did. A huge open kitchen catches your eye as soon as you enter, as well as the enormous concrete bar in the middle of the hall. Large garage doors cover the sides and vintage cars are suspended in the air to preserve the industrial feel. Simply amazing.
Not only does the Goudfazant look great, it’s also a place for proper food. The menu is compact and mouthwatering. It offers great modern french-style food that is beautifully prepared. Service at the Goudfazant is attentive and the price/quality ratio is unquestionably good. Planning to go during rush hour? Don’t forget to make a reservation.
