Founded in 1892, Mercado da Ribeira (‘Market near the River’) is Lisbon’s leading daily food market with numerous stands presenting all sorts of fresh fish, fruits, vegetables and delicacies. It’s the perfect place to discover some of Portugal’s regional products. Next to the market area, (TimeOut) Mercado offers a gastronomical area which covers food stands hosted by (locally) respected chefs and popular Lisbon restaurant concepts. The idea is to purchase whatever food you feel like, and sit inside the huge hall where you interact with everyone else out there. It’s not Lisbon’s cheapest, but certainly an amazing experience.
