As the name implies, Moderna Museet is a museum that stocks modern art, featuring Swedish and Scandinavian art (some 3700 pieces) as well as international art from the likes of Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and Salvador Dalí. The sculpture park with 16 sculptures by 8 European artist is the eye catcher of the exhibition, but you will also find drawings, photography and film here. The Study Gallery houses 800 works of art donated in 2005 by the museums first director, Pontus Hultén, but it also hosts all sorts of events and activities so make sure that it is open (unless you come for the event, obviously).
The museum is located on the island of Skeppsholmen and was first opened in 1958. In 2009 a new branch was opened in the city of Malmö.
